That little device from Leap Motion has started a revolution

Here is an area where Intel didn't really kickstart things, but which it intends to help flourish greatly: 3D motion control, based on hand gestures. Intel thinks that motion control will become the new mouse.

Or at least should. It's not really easy to make a prediction about this, since forecasts have a way of crashing and burning when we least expect.

Still, Intel is quite confident in its vision regarding 3D gesture control, and doesn't expect the concept to “pull a netbook” as it were (ergo, be expected to grow in shipments for years only to utterly crash and burn spectacularly fast as soon as tablets debuted).

It is Intel's belief that 3D motion control could, and should, become as pervasive as the mouse is at the present time.

We don't really have to go into detail about that. Suffice to say, lots of people like to use a mouse with their desktops, laptops, monitor clients, smart TVs, etc.

Even some owners of certain touch-enabled products sometimes feel more comfortable with a mouse in their hand.

Obviously, being able to open a program or turn a virtual page with just a wave of your hand is really appealing, especially when it's just your hand/fingers that the camera sensor is concerned with.

Not only does this remove the possibility of screen smudges, it also fits better with monitors and all-in-one PCs.

After all, touch monitors and AiOs have that annoying trait to make your arms ache if you have to hold them outstretched for very long.

Intel unveiled its plans for 3D motion control at IDF 2013, where it said it would support Creative's new $200 Senx3D technology (supports applications developed using Intel’s free perceptual computing software developer kit / SDK).

It also said that the 14nm Intel Broadwell CPU, set to power ultrabooks in 2014, would support 3D camera integration right into the laptop bezel. Watch the hilarious video of a frog playing a phone game below to understand Chipzilla's vision.
