Official launch just hours away

With Intel's Core i7 processors just moments away, it appears that online retailers are already listing the new processors on their websites, thus allowing all those enthusiasts who have been eagerly waiting for the release to finally place their order. According to the more recent listings, users in the U.S. can now order their very own Core i7 processor, directly from Newegg.

As it was expected, the three new Core i7 models, which are yet to be officially introduced by the leading chip maker, are priced between $300 and $1,100, with the mainstream Core i7 920 model available for $319.99 from Newegg. The Core i7 940 model, which comes with the same features as the 920 version, but is clocked at 2.93GHz, is set to cost you $599.99. However, if you happen to not be interested in a faster processor, Newegg has an interesting combo offer that will provide you with an Intel DX58SO "Smackover" motherboard and a 920 quad-core processor, all for just $578.98, a $20 saving over a single Core i7 940 model.

Newegg offers the same combo for each of the three new Core i7 models, thus enabling users to get a better price for two of the most significant components of a new desktop computer system. Users will obviously require a DDR3 memory kit, in order to make full use of the advantages delivered by the new Core i7 processors.

A $578.98 price point for a new motherboard and Intel Core i7 processor appears to be a rather reasonable upgrade option, although most users are likely to wait until prices go down even slightly, probably somewhere in the $450 range, for both an X58 motherboard and a Core i7 processor. Still, as we have already seen with the Tokyo launch, there are many "early adopters" who will be closely following the launch of Intel's next-generation desktop processors, in order to be among the first to upgrade.
