Developer Insomniac has again said that it does not plan on delivering any video games for the PlayStation Portable 2, the upcoming device that Sony calls the NGP, preferring to focus its development effort in order to deliver more experiences on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 home consoles from Microsoft and Sony.

James Stevenson, who is a community manager working for Insomniac, said at an event in Los Angeles that the NGP is interesting but that his company only plans to support creator Sony with game development, adding, “it’s probably not something we would develop in-house.”

When the NGP was first confirmed as being developed by Sony both Insomniac and Naughty Dog have said that they were not planning to directly create any video games for it.

Sony has already announced that the Resistance franchise would make the jump to the PlayStation Portable 2, with a game that is being developed by Nihilistic Software, a studio which has also done work on PlayStation Move Heroes.

An Uncharted game for the PSP 2 is also probably in development, but no official information on it has been offered.

At the moment, there are two main Insomniac teams working on big games, with another one doing work on a new intellectual property that will be published on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 by EA Partners.

Resistance 3 will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive launched this year and it is being created in Burbank, California.

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One is being worked on in Carolina.

Sony has said that the PlayStation Portable 2 handheld, also known as the NGP, will be released before the end of the year and will offer computing power that is similar to that of the PS3, with the only limitation being the power offered by the battery.

Sony plans to have a number of its big franchises ready for the PSP 2 launch.
