BlueSky Positioning has recently developed a SIM card concept with a GPS receiver incorporated. Interesting to know, this A-GPS SIM is the first Assisted-GPS that has ever been used on a SIM card.

It may seem a luxury at first, but this SIM with included GPS proves to be the solution to several problems concerning mobile phone services. BlueSky actually makes it much easier for operators to provide emergency call information and even set grounds for commercial LSB applications as well as to create revenue systems.

Technology tends to shrink down to the limit of making it possible to reach the highest performances in just only a few inches in size. This makes the newly released invention a technological breakthrough. Moreover, the GPS receiver is especially built to be as less soliciting as possible for the battery.

"The LBS market has promised much and delivered little. This strengthened EU legislation to enhance public safety services will also catalyse the LBS market by putting the means of access into the hands of every user. Working with SIM card manufacturers, BlueSky Positioning enables mobile operators to embed the service in every consumer's SIM and USIM card, without compromising the existing levels of card security and privacy protection.", said Risto Savolainen, BlueSky Positioning CEO.

When you think of how much more affordable is buying a SIM instead of a normal GPS handset, BlueSky's invention is even more appealing. All taken into account, the company intends on promoting its new invention as a more affordable way for operators to locate the source of emergency calls within the EU.
