GF104 Powers GeForce GTX 460 and GTX 455

Even though the GeForce GTX 480 is the fastest reference graphics card on the market, there are some enthusiasts that would have wanted more overclocking headroom, in addition to a lower TDP and operational temperatures. With NVIDIA known to be working on new Fermi GPUs, the consumer base is, naturally, hoping that all of their prayers will be answered by the newcomers. And with the GF104 slated to be the first to debut, all the attention is focused on it.

Fudzilla already published a report that states that the GF104 will have a significantly higher overclocking potential than the GF100. Also, rumors say that the cards based on it will have a lower price point than the GeForce GTX 465. Seemingly confirming this, Fudzilla claims to have stumbled upon another rumor, even more promising.

Apparently, the previous assumptions that the GeForce GTX 460 was going to be built around this new processor were true. Only yesterday did a leak hand out the alleged clock speeds and other specifications of this upcoming model, but did not mention which GPU would be used.

The other fact that was not, until now, known was that there is not one but a pair of distinct boards en route. The second inbound product is, at present, dubbed GTS 455, denomination in line with Fudzilla's previous suspicion that the GTS prefix would be used.

What is, more or less, certain is that both graphics adapters will be a fair bit cheaper than all the Fermi cards currently selling. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing the exact specifications of the GTS 455 at this time, since they have not even been finalized. This means that it will take a while for market watchers to find out the clock frequencies, number of cores and amount of memory.
