Despite the appearance of a strong rivalry, the developers working for Treyarch and Infinity Ward, the two studios best known for their work on the Call of Duty series, are keen to work together in order to make the entire franchise better in the long term.

Robert Bowling, who is the creative director working at Infinity Ward, has told the Official Xbox Magazine that, “At the end of the day we are two different developers and we have different opinions about the games we make and the games they make.”

He added, “I think there will always be a lot of communication back and forth. When we do something really great it would be good for theirs, and when they do something really great it would be good for ours, so I think you are going to see a lot more of that.”

Bowling says that, any time one of the two teams start work on a new video game linked to Call of Duty, it looks back at the experience that the other developed and tries to learn as much as possible from it.

Infinity Ward was the team to create Call of Duty, but the yearly launch schedule that publisher Activision insisted on meant that Treyarch needed to be brought in so that the launch schedule could be maintained.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was the biggest selling video game of last year and also managed to top the entertainment launch charts. Activision Blizzard has already confirmed that a new series game will be launched during the fall of this year.

Treyarch is set to handle the development work and recent rumors and leaks suggest that the name will be Black Ops 2, a sequel of sorts to the 2010 game that focused on covert actions that took place during the Cold War.

Sledgehammer Games might also be involved, although it is widely thought that they are working on their own spin-off project.
