Sony has announced that the Sucker Punch developed Infamous superhero videogame has just surpassed sales of 1.2 million units worldwide. It was released in the early part of the year and managed a good performance in the United States in the first two months, moving more than 350,000 units, but then it disappeared from the charts. The game arrived before the release of the all-new Slim version of the PlayStation 3 and before the price cut for the Sony home gaming consoles, which might have limited its impact.

With Infamous reaching 1.2 million units sold to gamers, Sony has also announced that the title now has an official price point of 39.99 dollars, designed to encourage more players to try out the experience, and is also offering all those who have the game a chance to download a set of weapons initially available only for those who pre-ordered it.

The Gigawatt Blades are said to be the biggest damage dealer in the game but they also tend to drain energy pretty fast, so they should be used wisely. The new weapon will be available through the PlayStation Network beginning with December 10.

Infamous is telling the story of a normal guy called Cole who, by accident, gets the power to control electricity and use it as a weapon. The game takes place in a ravaged Empire City and the player must decide whether they are interested in helping the survivors and getting access to good powers or whether they are interested in profiting from their plight and getting access to evil capabilities.

The title is open world and offers some pretty interesting set pieces. With the game managing to go over the 1 million mark in sales, Sony is probably also preparing a sequel, which might arrive in early 2011 and might offer more electricity-based powers to play around with.
