Sony and Sucker Punch are getting ready to debut the first standalone expansion for Infamous 2, in the form of Infamous: Festival of Blood, which is out today, in North America, and tomorrow, in Europe and the rest of the world.

Infamous 2 impressed quite a lot of PlayStation 3 owners at the beginning of summer, with a solid single-player campaign that was further enriched through the variety of user generated content which resulted in lots of great missions being added to the game's world.

Now, the team at Sucker Punch is releasing a standalone expansion to Infamous 2, called Infamous: Festival of Blood, which sees protagonist Cole McGrath turn into a vampire, and the city of New Marais being transformed into a habitat for all sorts of monsters and creatures.

Ahead of the game's release, the studio has presented some of the new things included in Festival of Blood, including an all-new power for Cole, called Shadow Swarm, that allows him to fly around New Marais, but only if the feeds upon helpless people.

Sucker Punch highlights the makeover done to New Marais, which is celebrating Pyre Night, where everyone wears different types of costumes and maps, and redecorates things like the subway lines into underground catacombs, from which the minions of the new villain, Bloody Mary, will spawn.

Sucker Punch hasn't forgotten about the User Generated Content segment of the game, with Festival of Blood adding a variety of new content and assets, not to mention a new 2D cutscene tool, that allows players to create comic book-style cutscenes and add story elements to the action in their missions.

Infamous: Festival of Blood can be played with the regular DualShock 3 controller, as well as with the PlayStation Move motion controls.

The standalone expansion doesn't require a copy of Infamous 2, and is available today on the PlayStation Store in North America, for $9.99 (or $7.99 if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription) and tomorrow, in the rest of the world, for €9.99/£7.99.
