The country is yet to figure out how to properly look after its forests

This past Monday, the UN published a new report stating that Indonesia must figure out a way to improve on its forest governance as soon as possible.

Presently, this country is home to the world's third largest tropical forest cover.

The UN fears that, but for its better looking after these natural ecosystems, Indonesia's tropical forest coverage will dramatically decrease in the years to come.

This is because, on a scale of 1 to 5, the country has only managed to score 2.33 as far as overall forest governance is concerned.

According to Mongabay, conservationists now urge that governors, district heads and mayors, who happen to have authority over 85% of the country's forest areas, take the time to implement more environmentally-friendly policies aimed at safeguarding these regions.

By the looks of it, corruption in Indonesia's provincial regions need also be dealt with if the country is to succeed in keeping its remaining forest cover out of harm's way.
