"Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" premiered in Australia and in New York and although the movie is getting somehow rave reviews for its fast-paced action (and not so rave reviews for its plot, but let's not be mean before actually seeing the flick), the red carpet fashion was definitely less inspiring than when the movie was first screened at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week. Surprisingly, the usually stunning Cate Blanchett scored very low on the fashion scale at the movie premiere in Australia, while at the New York premiere hosted by BET's show 106 and Park, it was singer Ashanti who managed to turn heads for all the wrong reasons.

Back in her native Australia, Blanchett wowed critics and not exactly from a positive point of view. Although looking radiant and fresh-faced after her recent pregnancy and tiring tour schedule, the usually impeccably dressed actress opted for a gold lame wrap dress gathered at the waist with a plain black belt, which made her look a lot heavier than in real life and placed no emphasis whatsoever on her enviable slender figure. If anything, her dress looked like it was made up of too much fabric put together in a slightly amateur-ish manner. She paired her dress with a pair of chunky black t-strap shoes that would have made Gwyneth Paltrow green with envy.

Back in New York, Harrison Ford and his partner Calista Flockhart definitely stole the show with a simple, unassuming yet very elegant look. Calista in particular wore a simple, pale pink dress and looked stunning. As I was mentioning before, singer Ashanti also put in an appearance on the red carpet but her peacock sequin dress, coupled with thick blue eyeshadow under her eyes made her look like she was about to play a game of football. Her choice of makeup did, however, made it to most "fashion police" sections on various fashion websites - and that's bound to count for something.
