China is Nokia's most important market in terms of sales, a position that this country has managed to maintain over a long period of time. The United States used to follow on the second place, although things have now changed. India has become the second largest market for the Finnish company.

Nokia has gone through great efforts to make the best of what India had to offer in terms of mobile phone adoption over the past years. Especially in the last period, they have opened new service shops and introduced new handset models in order to live up to the fast demand for mobile technology coming from this developing market.

"India is playing an increasingly important role in the global economy buoyed by impressive economic growth, skilled manpower and tremendous business opportunity. As the market leader in devices and infrastructure, Nokia is committed to build the telecom ecosystem in the country and foster the creation of a favorable environment for collaboration and economic development", commented Mr. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, President and CEO of Nokia Corporation.

Nokia Siemens Networks has recently announced its plans to invest USD 100 million in India over the next three years. This takes a great amount of commitment coming from the Finnish company and its subsidiaries, or, better said, a smart move to make the best of what a growing market has to offer.

Nokia has already made a big name for itself in India, with the release of many entry-level devices capable of providing solutions for the lifestyle of people living in this country. Moreover, the company currently exports devices in almost 60 other countries from a manufacturing plant from India. Only here, they have managed to reach production volumes of 60 million handsets and also reach great profit levels to match.
