India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced the launch of a new joint working group under the Deputy National Security Advisors (DNSA). The role of the new working group is to implement measures and safeguards to protect the oil and gas sector against cyber threats.
According to The Hindu, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Veerappa Moily made the announcement on Monday at the IT and Cyber Security Summit and Exhibition on Oil & Gas Industry.
The minister has advised industry members to make sure their communication networks and information infrastructure are protected against competitors, terrorists and cybercriminals.
Moily has highlighted the fact that the oil and gas sectors have come to rely on information technology, and that advancements such as cloud computing, big data analytics and high-speed telecommunications could be adopted in the future.
