Great news from India! The country's high officials have finally agreed to issue a ban on shark finning.

Apparently, they've come to understand that endangered species such as hammerheads and whale sharks need all the help they can get if they are to escape extinction, and that killing them by the hundreds is not such a good idea.

Sources tell us that, over the past few years, the demand for shark fins has been steadily increasing. Apparently, most shark fins are shipped to China, where they are used to make soup.

Now that India has instituted a ban on shark finning, those who continue to pull sharks out of the ocean, cut their fins and then throw them back in risk being made to spend up to 10 years in prison and pay noteworthy fines.

Hopefully, these punishments will compel fishermen to abide by the new legislation.
