Many users are asking themselves why does the search giant own two similar services, Google Video and YouTube, the products that allow users to upload, share and comment videos with friends and other members of the community. Because the speculations were continuously spreading on the Internet, the company decided to release an official announcement to present Google's plans for both services. The search giant's officials sustained both video solutions will continue to exist, but YouTube will try to develop its impressive community while Video will be based on the provided content.

Compete, a company that releases market researches and analysis, published a new study to present the evolution of the most important Google products. After a quick look, the results are at least impressive: Google Video is the most promising solution for the search giant because the product recorded triple traffic although YouTube is continuously developed to become the leader in its category. The video service is followed by Blog Search was also incredible popular while Froogle, Local, Directory, Alerts and Local represent the products that lost the most impressive amount of traffic.

"Despite the YouTube acquisition, Google Video continues to grow and is one of Google's most promising categories. That big spike in August? That's when Google added Video to the homepage. Even if you don't buy into the hype that Google Blog has surpassed Technorati the growth is undeniable as Google's second fastest growing property. Google Scholar has had an interesting roller coaster ride since launching in late 2005. I'm very curious on what Scholar will grow in to considering Backrub was originally an academic tool," Jeremy Crane from Compete reported in his blog.

It seems like Google Video is continuously growing up, attracting users that are looking for high-quality content, confirming the company's statements regarding the video solution. Although the analysis contains the most popular services developed by Google, you can observe that Gmail, the mail solution that was currently released as a public beta, is not included in the rankings. I guess it was already very popular or it started to grow up since the free registration was announced.
