DLP projectors have evolved quite a lot during the past few years and have thus become quite an affordable solution for those people who want to setup their own home theater system without having to occupy even more space in their already over-crowded homes with a huge, widescreen plasma or LCD display. And one such device that might really prove to be quite popular with consumers is the latest offering from projector-manufacturer InFocus, namely the Play Big IN82, a device capable of attaining 1080p native resolution, as well as a whopping 12000:1 contrast ratio.

The device from InFocus comes packed with the latest and most advanced projection technologies available on the market. First of all, it incorporates the latest image processor developed by Texas Instruments, namely the DarkChip3 1080p DLP, which is capable of extending the device's contrast ratio. Thus, although the Play Big IN82 features a native contrast ratio of 4000:1, the iris can be dynamically adjusted by activating the onboard iris in order to reach 12000:1, which is quite a high value, even for the most demanding customers.

As mentioned earlier, the projector provides advanced video processing and scaling performances, especially since it incorporates the Pixelworks DNX 10-bit video processing technology. Thus, it can attain a 1920x1080 native resolution (1080p), while still supporting lower resolutions, both in PAL and SECAM systems. Moreover, the device provides users with a standard lens throw ratio of 1.85-2.22:1 (distance/width), while the standard lens projection distance is of 1.5 - 10 meters.

The device comes packed with most of the connectivity options one might expect from a modern projector, including here DVI, HDMI, M1-DA, Component and Composite RCA and VESA. Moreover, the device features both IR and serial links for integrating into an automated home theater setup, and, quite obviously, comes with its own remote control.

The Play Big IN82 from InFocus will start shipping in September for around $5,499, which might seem like a relatively high price for a projector, but it's actually pretty affordable, considering the numerous features this thing has to offer.
