The company wanted players to interact with one another

InFamous: Second Son might be an action title based on humans who can use superpowers, but it seems that, at least at one point, the development team at Sucker Punch evaluated the idea of using a set of Animal Crossing mechanics for the title.

Co-founder Chris Zimmerman is quoted by VG247 as saying that, “The original idea for Infamous, believe it or not, was that it was kind of Animal Crossing, but you were a super hero.”

Apparently, gamers would have been able to visit the game world of their friends and share content and Sucker Punch believed that the concept would work well given the overall structure of the game’s universe.

The executive adds, “All kinds of crazy stuff like that. We worked on that for about a year in that direction. So much more stylized, much more cartoony than what you end up seeing. We worked hard to see if we could make that work.”

The combat system of the game would have been different and it seems that the array of enemies that gamers were set to meet in that original vision of InFamous: Second Son could have been very different.

Zimmerman has not said exactly why his company abandoned the idea and decided to create the much more traditional experience that it has been previewing for the last few games.

InFamous: Second Son is a PlayStation 4 exclusive title and gamers all over the world will be able to get access to it on March 21.

The game was initially set to arrive in November last year, one of the launch titles that were supposed to show off the power of the new Sony home platform.

But the publisher decided that developer Sucker Punch needed more time to improve the quality of the experience and decided to delay it, as it did with racing title DriveClub.

InFamous: Second Son is built around new character Delsin, who needs to battle a government agency that has declared all conduits to be terrorist in the streets of Seattle, dealing with other superpowered humans in the process.

Sucker Punch has created a new array of powers, including neon, smoke and video, with a fourth one set to be revealed once the game is launched.

The developers have promised that the story of Second Son can be enjoyed by those who have not played the first two titles, although some familiar characters will make an appearance.
