Carrier billing will be available across all devices

Microsoft announced at BUILD 2015 that carrier billing would be available across all Windows 10 devices in any country across the world, making it easier for users to purchase apps when running the company's new operating system.

Carrier billing was already available in Windows, but with Windows 10, Redmond is trying to make it possible for everyone to use it, no matter the device they own. Carrier billing will thus work on PCs, tablets, and smartphones powered by Windows 10.

“Not everyone has a credit card,” Terry Myerson, head of the Windows unit, said during his keynote, “but everyone has a mobile phone.”

This would be a hit in developing markets, Myerson continued, pointing out that developers now have the opportunity to sell even more. Obviously, this is a way to convince more developers to code for Windows 10, proving that apps can bring back more revenues than on rival platforms.

At the same time, Myerson also revealed the new Store for Business, which would allow companies and organizations to choose the apps they wish to make available to their employees and thus control the downloads they can make.

Windows 10 will be launched during the summer and carrier billing is expected to become available from the very beginning on all devices running it.

Myerson said that Microsoft was aiming to have 1 billion Windows 10 devices in two to three years, which is quite an ambitious goal, given the fact that this is a completely new OS.
