Right now, FM1 socket and AM3 CPUs/APUs still sell alongside the more advanced FM2 and AM3+, but this won't last for much longer if AMD has anything to say about it.

Advanced Micro Devices is bound to stop making FM1 and AM3 chips sooner or later. This was always a given.

What no one knew for certain was when the full transition to FM2 and AM3+ sockets would occur.

For those uncertain, FM2 goes with mainstream APUs, while AM3+ motherboards support high-end processors.

Digitimes says that the Sunnyvale company has decided: a gradual phase out of the products will start this month (April 2013), to be completed next year.

In fact, FM1 units might go out of the market by the third quarter, and AM3 will stick around up to the end of the year.
