Stardock has announced that Impulse, the digital distribution service that it has created is now supported by two of the biggest publishers, Activision and Ubisoft, which are offering their games through it.

Impulse is one of the latest comers to the digital distribution scene, competing with other services like Steam from Valve, maybe the best known, and Direct 2 Drive. The service was initially a way to distribute Stardock titles but has since then evolved quite a bit.

At the moment, players can get the newest videogames from Activision, Prototype, for the price of 49.99 dollars, or they can download the older hit Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which is selling for 39.99 dollars.

If you like Ubisoft games, then you can pick up titles like Far Cry 2, one of the most interesting releases of 2008, Assassin's Creed and Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East, all for the rather low price of 19.99 dollars. Stardock is saying that more games from the two publishers will be coming to Impulse in the following months, both new releases and older titles.

Now, people can also get videogames from 2K Games, Atari, Capcom, CDV, D3 Publisher, Epic Games, THQ and Stardock itself via Impulse. Brad Wardell, the Chief Executive Officer of Stardock, stated that “As our Impulse platform continues to gain favor among PC gaming fans, we’re continuously adding the best titles the industry has to offer."

One of the most interesting features to be added to the service in the near future is something called GOO, which is Stardock's answer to piracy. The company will pack the executable of the games that it distributes with an encryption system and will allow only players who have downloaded it legally to access the key decrypting the executable portion of the game.
