The eServer xSeries 460 servers family will be available from the end of the month in several different configurations: the first release will include systems with 4 and 8 processors, and the second one, available from the beginning of July, will support configurations with 16 and 32 CPUs.

In order to underline the 32 processors support offered by xSeries products, IMB has presented the x460 server, which is also developed around the same latest generation processor.

The server series currently has no direct competitor, although there's quite a well defined demand on the market for server solutions with support for such a big number of processors, seeing that there are more and more users demanding such a level of scalability.

The x460 model will be initially launched in a configuration containing several Xeon single-core processors, but dual-core chips can also be integrated, as soon as Intel will be able to supply this type of solutions.

The server will use IBM's third generation Hurricane chipset, which was first presented in February and is already included in xSeries 366-type servers. The architecture of this X3 chipset offers a level of performances for 8-processors systems that is up to 60% higher with respect to similar second generation systems.

The main applications for x460 are database implementation, company planning, customer relationship management (CRM) solutions and server consolidation. The 8 processors configuration will be available at prices starting from 72,182 USD.
