Baby Archie is the result of a freak biological phenomenon

When a female anteater gave birth despite being separated from her mate for more than a year, some immediately jumped to the conclusion that it must have been a case of immaculate conception.

Recent news from the LEO Zoological Conservation Center says that this was by no means the case: baby Archie has both a mother and a father.

Funnily enough, its father is the male anteater its mom was parted from in 2012.

Experts say that, as confirmed by their investigations, Archie's birth was a textbook example of embryonic diapause, meaning that Armani's body neither got rid of the fertilized egg, nor allowed it to develop.

What it did was put it in storage inside the uterus, and kept it there for several months in a row, Daily Mail reports.

“I just don't feel like having another baby right now. Maybe after the swimsuit season ends...” mother Armani must have said to herself.
