Imation Corp announced on Wednesday 28.12.2005 that the new 4 gigabyte drive is now available through Imation authorized distributors and retailers worldwide.

This portable drive makes transferring and sharing documents, presentations, photos or music easy and fast. Its unique design features a flexible USB 2.0 connector that locks back into the drive, forming a handy attachment clip for briefcases, backpacks or belt loops.

For maximum reliability and file security, the Imation Micro Hard Drive offers Magnetic Data Encoding and Error Correction, 128-bit encryption (to prevent unauthorized access), and innovative File Synchronization, which automatically creates a backup copy of your data. To protect files during transport, it's engineered with shock resistance up to 1000 Gs, so it's extremely durable.

The Imation Micro Hard Drive also encompasses the 2005 Guinness World Records book smallest hard disk drive, a Toshiba invention measuring less than one inch in diameter. This innovative design was recently recognized as a 2006 Innovations Design and Engineering Awards honoree and will be featured at the 2006 International CES Innovations Plus exhibit at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, on January 5 through January 8.

"Imation was the first in the industry to design a device using the Toshiba 0.85-inch hard disk drive, recognizing the need for ultra portable storage," said Scott Maccabe, vice president and general manager, Toshiba Storage Device Division. "By utilizing Toshiba's hard disk drive technology and responding to customer feedback, Imation has created an improved micro storage device that promises today's mobile professionals a small yet powerful storage device."

The Imation Micro Hard Drive is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS for seamless transfer of files between platforms. It features multi-gigabyte storage capability, small, lightweight design (1.61in x .66in x 3.3in), fast read/write speeds (Read 5MB/second, Write 3MB/second), and it requires no additional power supply or USB cable.

A software upgrade featuring enhancements such as a streamlined user interface, which makes protecting and restoring files easier, and modifications to make the device compatible with Mac OS X Tiger software will be available for both the 2GB and 4GB drives in early January 2006. "From its unique design to its maximum reliability and file security, the incredibly portable Imation Micro Hard Drive is perfect for mobile professionals to transport, share and carry monster-sized files," said Tom Lally, U.S. executive director of sales and marketing, Imation.
