In RAW format

Most video cameras (amateur or professional) currently available on the market apply a certain degree of compression to the recorded video, simply because it would otherwise occupy way too much space. However, Ikonoskop has decided to try a completely new approach to this issue and developed the A-cam dII, a camera that only takes care of the recording process and ditches compression altogether.

Thus, according to the company's statement, the A-cam dII is the only camera providing totally uncompressed images in RAW format. This means that users can record video and metadata at 1920 x 1080 pixels, at framerates ranging between 1 and 60 fps and accompanied by 2-channel, 48 kHz sound, directly to HD-cam, HD-cam SR or any other full HD-formats available. Additionally, should they desire to do so, users can always print the footage to film at the native 1.78:1 aspect ratio without any loss of pixels.

This very impressive camera sports a Super-16 sized CCD sensor, which makes it possible for users to employ Super-16 mm lenses. And speaking of lenses, it's important to mention that the A-cam dII can be used right out of the box, since it's accompanied by an Ikonoskop 9mm f/1.5 cine lens as well as by PL, Leica M, IMS and C-mount lensmounts.

As mentioned right from the title, since it records directly in RAW format, the A-cam dII shoots video at an incredible speed, of 240MB/second (which is quite understandable, given the fact that each frame has a size of 3.5 MB in RAW). All the data is stored onto the 80 GB cartridges that come with the camera, which, nevertheless, can only store 15 minutes at a time.

The Ikonoskop A-cam dII is among the most expensive camcorders ever developed, as it sells for an estimate 9,900 US dollars (6.950 Euros), which will also get the customers 1 battery, 1 Ikonoskop 9mm lens and 1 Ikonoskop 80GB Memory Cartridge.
