In April 2015, Iggy Azalea was supposed to hit the road with The Great Escape Tour. It was pushed back to September amidst rumors that she wasn’t being cooperative with management and organizers, because she refused to do media appearances to promote it, and it was canceled altogether over the weekend.

Until today, Iggy didn’t offer a reason for the cancelation, though she did tweet an apology to the fans who were disappointed in the news. Speaking with Seventeen Magazine, she says that the tour didn’t feel “right,” hence her decision to pull it.

“I’ve had a different creative change of heart”

Iggy says that, when she agreed to the tour, she was in a phase in her development as an artist in which it felt right. Things have changed since then, though, and touring simply doesn’t fit in with the direction she sees herself going.

“I want to start totally anew, and if I stayed on my tour, that would mean I wouldn't even be able to start working on that until after Christmas. On top of that, mentally, to be honest with you, I just feel I deserve a break,” she says.

Because she doesn’t want to get in a place in which life is all work and no fun, and because she wants the freedom to do whatever she feels like doing right now, she thought it best to cancel the tour.

At the end of the day, she adds, if she’d stuck to the initial plan and had gone on tour, but her heart wouldn’t have been in it, she would have still disappointed fans. She takes full responsibility for the choice of canceling it.

No opening act

Even if she’d tried really hard to honor her initial commitment, she still couldn’t have done it without feeling like she was compromising her art.

The April dates had Nick Jonas and Tinashe booked as opening acts, but when the tour was pushed back to September, she was left without an opening act that would fit in with the whole tour.

Iggy promises the publication that she did her best to come up with new acts, but no one was available on such a short notice. Again, instead of doing this rushed and making a mess of it, she chose to put it off for a later time, when she will be able to deliver to the fans the show they deserve.
