We have stumbled upon what is potentially the most convincing and beautiful iPhone 5 concept to date. And we’re eager to share it with you.

These renderings are the work of Michal Bonikowski, whose design prediction seems fairly plausible for the folks at Yanko Design, a web magazine covering anything that stands out from industrial design, concepts, and technology, to interior design, architecture, exhibition and fashion.

The online publication says Bonikowski has a feeling that “the new version will be safe and predictable, simply because Apple can’t afford another failed version.”

While many will disagree with the designer’s opinion on how the current iPhone is perceived, his breathtaking iPhone 5 concept should make up for any errors he may have in his interpretation of the iPhone 4 and its status.

Bonikowski sees the iPhone 5 moving away from a glass back plate, to a curved aluminum shell, with the steel frame (antenna) remaining in place.

The functions that rely on physical buttons, including sound volume, the hardware lock, and even the home button, are all converted from mechanical to sensory, according to Bonikowski.

As you can see in the first image above, the conceptual phone also moves the camera and LED flash more towards the Apple logo which, needless to point out, isn’t very plausible.

Not that the rest of the design elements are likely to be a part of the next iPhone.

Apple does struggle to keep the iPhone as thin as possible, but the current landmark (iPhone 4) already looks like it’s close to the limit of what can be crammed up inside an acceptably thick enclosure.

Considering that Cupertino will want to add more function to its next iPhone, there is very little chance it will be much thinner than the current model.

However, as Bonikowski aims to show, a back aluminum plate that tapers to the sides is indeed possible, if not likely.

Apple fans will agree tapering is Apple’s method of ‘getting away’ with the actual thickness of a device.

It happened with the first MacBook Air, it happens with the iMac, iPad and iPod touch, and if Apple wants to make the next iPhone at least ‘look’ thinner, Bonikowski’s design may just materialize.

We'd love to hear what you think about this bold design. Share your thoughts in the comments.
