External storage solutions have made huge strides when it comes down to speed and capacity, but security has been often left behind, although this isn't the case no more since Icy Box has just released the IB-Safe226 external enclosure that protects your data using AES-256 encryption that can only be decoded via a special mini-USB physical key.

If you would take only a glance at the IB-Safe226 you would think this is nothing more than your standard external enclosure with an all white stylish design, but this thing is actually much more than that since it can protect your sensitive data with an AES-256 encryption algorithm, approved by the US government for “top secret” information.

But how it does that is the real innovation, since the IB-Safe226 uses a far more advanced method then its counterparts that target the average Joe, relying on hardware keys that look pretty much like your average USB flash drive.

In order for somebody to decode the data present on your portable hard drive they will need to have one of the two physical keys bundled together with the enclosure, otherwise they wouldn't be able to see any of the info that is stored on your hard drive.

And since the encryption process is performed by a special chip placed inside Icy Box's enclosure, the data transfer speed won't be affected.

The IB-Safe226 is compatible with all the regular 2.5 inch SATA hard drives available right now, SSDs being also supported if you want more speed, although this enclosure only comes with USB 2.0 support.

To top things off, this enclosure is available for only 49.00 Euros, a pretty decent price for such a secure storage solution, especially if you think about the piece of mind that is associated with owning such a device if you often find yourself carrying sensitive data around.
