Says Team ICO leader

The PlayStation 3 is a very welcoming console. It has its exclusive releases, it shares some of its videogames with the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360 but until now, it has failed to mine one of the most extensive videogame libraries in the world, that of the previous PlayStation home gaming consoles, which had their shares of hits over the years.

But, apparently, there's talk about bringing some of them to the PS3 and leading the charge might be ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, two games widely noted for the way they eschewed run-of-the-mill gameplay and story mechanics and created almost surreal experiences.

Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show Fumito Ueda, who is the leader of Team ICO, the minds behind the two games, said that “Initially, I didn't want to consider that. I always thought they were designed for PS2 and should stay there. But lately, I've been thinking it would be nice to provide the games to other platforms to reach more users.”

Of course, Sony bosses need to green light the idea first. At the moment, Team ICO is working on a new videogame, called The Last Guardian, which is set to arrive in 2010 and appears to be sharing the same kind of sensibilities as Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, featuring the interaction between a young boy and a large creature, a cross between a bird and a lion that must work together to combat an unnamed threat.

Currently, Sony is set to release a PlayStation 3 bundle of the two God of War videogames, with upgraded graphics and adapted controls, in preparation of the release of God of War III, which should arrive in March 2010. A similar bundle with Shadow of the Colossus and Ico might be prepared and released before The Last Guardian appears in stores.
