Especially AOL

The attacks launched by "zombie" systems, which cause a large number of victims, are coming mostly from America Online users, which seem to represent the most common source, at least according to the security companies.

Most of the security specialists within Prolexic Technologies have reached the conclusion that AOL, together with the other major Internet services providers, represents the ideal structure for launching "Denial of Service"-type attacks. In the report they have published regarding this subject are presented several solutions that companies can carry out in order to avoid this type of attacks.

Amongst the hackers' preferred targets are also the T-Mobile, Wanadoo or Comcast Corp services. Unfortunately, many of the providers of online services do not protect their users and do not employ systems for detecting massive e-mails transmissions, a clear sign of a spam-based attack.

The reason for which AOL is mentioned more frequently than the other companies is that this report points out the fact that America Online has a larger number of subscription payers, and not that its services are less secure than those of its competitors in this segment.
