Although for most of us, one monitor, one keyboard, one mouse and one desktop unit are quite enough, there are certain fields of activity where users have to control several computers at the same time. For this reason, the IOGEAR company has launched the GCS1784 4-Port Dual Link DVI KVMP Switch with 7.1 Audio, a device that will allow users to completely control up to four computers from a single console.

According to the company's statement, the GCS1784 is equipped with IOGEAR's Display Emulation Technology, which remembers the resolution and refresh rate (EDID) of a monitor, making it possible to boot all the computers connected to it at the same time, switch back and forth between up to four computers, and still maintain the ideal video settings of the monitor.

And since we're on the subject, it's important to mention that the device supports asynchronous hotkey switching between KVM focus, USB peripheral, and Audio ports, and also provides complete keyboard and mouse emulation for error free booting and real-time switching.

Plus, the device supports some pretty impressive resolutions, namely up to 2560 x 1600 via DVI-D Dual link and up to 1920 x 1200 pixels via the DVI-D Single link. Furthermore, it's also compatible with special monitors, some of which attain resolutions of up to 3840 x 2400 pixels.

Additionally, the GCS1784 has also been fitted with two USB 2.0 peripheral ports for asynchronously sharing USB devices between computers, and a powered USB hub may be attached to the peripheral ports for added functionality.

And as if all of the connectivity options mentioned above weren't enough, the GCS1784 also provides support for 7.1 surround sound systems, which means that it can be safely used as an intermediary in multimedia playback (Blu-ray), extreme gaming, or, why not, video editing.

As you've probably guessed already, the device from IOGEAR is a pretty expensive product, given the features it can provide. So, in order to get the GCS1784 KVMP switch, be prepared to cough up around 800 US dollars, for which, nevertheless, you'll get a pretty good sales package, which also includes 4 Custom Dual Link Cables, 4 x 7.1 Audio cables, one USB-to-PS/2 Converter, a firmware upgrade cable, a power adapter, the user manual and the registration form.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
