Santa Rosa comes to power INTEL's upcoming laptop line

INTEL is preparing for the launch of Santa Rosa. Since that may sound a little unimportant to you let me explain why this is a big deal. First let's say that the Santa Rosa project has already eaten an important amount of cash with INTEL planning to invest another $300 million into its future notebooks. And if that does not sound impressive, maybe this will: 800MHz fsb Meroms with 802.11n capabilities integrated into Kedron wireless network controller and UEFI interface.

And don't forget the most important part as Santa Rosa will feature INTEL's proprietary NAND technology called Robson which will improve transfer rates and the responsiveness of the storage subsystem. Remember that Vista has already proven it can successfully use this onboard flash technology in order to cache some of the data. Combine all of the above with the fact that Santa Rosa will appear on the market in early 2007 and you'll understand that it is not only a technological leap but also a marketing leap.

With the coming of Vista, INTEL's campaign may prove successful after all. Don't think at Santa Rosa as a revolutionary step because the new notebooks won't be significantly faster than their older brothers. Instead Santa Rosa features some innovations that will eventually produce a base configuration for all the future laptops. And you'll have INTEL to thank for that.
