It is said to have no cables other than a power cord

IKEA has just announced the Uppleva, a furniture piece integrating a TV and a Blu-ray player complete with a 2.1 audio system and a wireless subwoofer, on its official website.

It took us some time, around twenty years or so, but the Star Trek: TNG furniture packed with technology is finally here in mass production.

Sure Uppleva is not as stylish or as customizable as some might like but hey, IKEA is strangely another synonym for cheap or overpriced at the same time, so we can’t ask too much of them.

The hidden cables are likely a blessing for the ones that hate to set-up such a system, or for those that don’t want to spend additional time and money to route the cables through special ducts and clip them together and out of sight.

We’re sure the “wireless” subwoofer is not exactly completely wireless. Just like every other wireless audio system out there, it has a power cord that will have to be connected to a power outlet.

Most of the wireless audio systems have power cords for every speaker or subwoofer and the digital audio signal is being transmitted wirelessly. We seriously doubt IKEA will introduce a battery powered subwoofer.

The integrated HD TV screens will start from a diagonal size of 24”, which is around 61 centimeters for the European customers.

If the integrated Blu-ray player is not enough for your multimedia appetite, there are two more USB ports, along with four HDMI connectors on the side of the screen.

The storage part will also come with a special empty bay on the right side that can be used for any other multimedia solution, like a set top box or a gaming console.

Pricing will start at around $950, or approximately 730 Euro for the European buyers.
