14 DAY TRIAL // IIS Transform Manager 1.0 RTW is the latest tool that Microsoft has made available for download to enable media conversion capabilities to developers.
Through the new utility, devs can run encoding tasks to convert various media content to on-demand Smooth Streams for different Silverlight clients and for Apple mobile digital devices.
The new IIS Transform Manager 1.0, Microsoft explains, is an extensible media transform engine that provides features such as "watch folder" job submission.
It also enables queuing, management, transcoding of integrated media, container format repackaging, as well as batch-encryption of on-demand audio and video files.
“One example of a media transform is transcoding Windows Media-formatted and MP4-formatted files, or other encoder-supported file formats, to on-demand Smooth Streams for delivery to Smooth Streaming-compatible clients (such as Microsoft Silverlight),” the company notes.
“Another example is repackaging Smooth Streaming fragments encoded with H.264 (AVC) video and AAC-LC audio codecs to MPEG-2 Transport Stream (MPEG-2 TS) segments for delivery to Apple mobile digital devices.”
Additionally, the Redmond-based software giant notes that the Transform Manager can be easily integrated with the IIS Smooth Streaming feature in IIS Media Services, which is responsible for the delivery of content that has been converted.
The IIS Transform Manager 1.0 arrives with support for Microsoft’s Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems, both x32 and x64.
To manage features from the IIS Manager user interface, developers will have to install the IIS Management Console for IIS in advance. .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is also needed to manage the Transform Manager feature from the UI. The tool requires for the user to be an administrator on the computer.
“IIS Transform Manager is designed to work with other programs, such as programs that handle audio or video signals. It's solely your responsibility to ensure your compliance with any terms accompanying such other programs, and that you have obtained any necessary rights for your use of the programs,” Microsoft explains.
