IFC Films has just released a new trailer for its latest, seemingly very unsettling film, “Sleeping Beauty.” Directed and written by Julia Leigh, the film is not a retelling of the classic story of the same name, contrary to appearances.

Instead, it takes the idea of a sleeping beauty and puts it in a context that is as decadent and disturbing as possible – and the result will be, one might as well hope, a journey into a world of sin, the kind of which we haven’t seen this year.

Emily Browning, the porcelain-skinned, doll-faced actress from “Sucker Punch,” is Lucy, a university student who answers an ad in a newspaper to become a lingerie waitress in order to be able to further pay for her studies.

She becomes a very unique kind of prostitute, where her matron is drugging her up each night to turn her into “Sleeping Beauty” for the customers.

In almost no time, Lucy loses all sense of where the dream ends and real life begins, and therein is her own personal drama.

“Sleeping Beauty” is out in UK today and will get a limited release in the US on December 2.
