Of all the hybrid devices launched so far, one might say that the one LG is preparing might be a bit outside the sphere of easily imagined concepts, even though lasers have come to play a part in the operation of both.

The issue of hybridization is one that can be raised on more or less every single level of the IT industry.

With so many things in common between various product types, it is often very easy to imagine how two or more items can merge together into something that is more than the sum of its parts.

Then again, there are also those items that cannot easily boast of being overly similar to the other, whether in looks, performance or anything else.

Mice and scanners could easily be viewed as this sort of incompatible electronics, but LG appears to have found a way to combine them.

Granted, the outfit did not actually make an official launch, but it did say it would not be long until it does.

More specifically, LG will step forward during this year's IFA show, the one scheduled between September 2 and 7, in Berlin.

There, the LSM-100 will be revealed, essentially a mouse with an integrated scanner, of all things.

LG actually issued a press release already (it can be found here), but it held off on pricing and availability, no doubt keeping those for later, when hype is already gathered.

Featuring the Optical Character Recognition technology, it converts scanned text into a document easy to edit.

Formats up to A3 can be scanned, and there is also the possibility of saving the information as an image file (PNG, JPEG, BMP), or as TIFF, PDF and XLS.

As for looks, the product is coated in a shiny black paint and blue activity indicator, plus an ergonomic shape.
