Last week, Alcatel made official during the IFA 2014 trade show in Berlin a new Android-based smartphone, in the form of Alcatel OneTouch Hero 2, and we got the chance to snap a few photos of it, for your viewing pleasure.

The new handset was made official with a large 6-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display that can deliver a 1080p resolution at a 367ppi pixels density, which allows it to pick up on various large smartphones already available for purchase.

The main selling point of this device, however, is not its size, but the performance capabilities that the octa-core MediaTek MT6592 chipset inside it is capable of delivering.

This 2GHz Cortex-A7 CPU is paired with 2GB of RAM, thus ensuring that users will receive a great experience for it, something that we noticed too during our short encounter with the device on the floor at IFA.

The phone has an appealing design too

It was pretty snappy when it came to launching applications, and was fast enough to give the impression that Alcatel has finally released a very appealing high-end smartphone for its users.

Moreover, the phone comes with a thin design and a metallic frame, which increase its appeal. The back cover is made of plastic, but it offers a good grip, and also seems quite durable.

On the back, the Alcatel OneTouch Hero 2 features a 13.1-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, which is capable of recording videos in full HD resolution, and which seemed pretty snappy as well when we played with it.

In fact, Alcatel focused on packing the phone with a nice set of camera features, including Face detection, Video stabilization, QR Code Scanner, Camera Live Filters, Extended Panorama, Touch focus, smile detection, HDR, night mode, and more.

The smartphone arrives on shelves with 16GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

It sports the usual connectivity features, dedicated accessories

The usual set of connectivity capabilities were also included in the smartphone, such as 4G LTE, HSDPA/HSUPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Display, Wi-Fi Hotspot, and a GPS receiver.

Alcatel OneTouch Hero 2 is powered by a 3100mAh battery that can deliver up to 10 hours of talk time on 3G networks, or up to 380 hours of standby time.

On top of that, Alcatel announced a series of accessories for it, such as Sidekick 2, E-Card, and an Alcatel OneTouch laptop that actually works as a dock for the smartphone, connecting to it wirelessly, and which cannot be used on its own.

The smartphone runs under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box, and should arrive on shelves in Europe by the end of September with a price tag of €350 attached to it.
