Acer’s smartphone business has never been more successful, on the contrary. After bleeding money for a few years, Acer was close to shut down its mobile division, but it looks like there’s a market for Liquid smartphones after all.

The company launched several affordable Liquid series Android smartphones earlier this year and confirmed its plans to take on several European markets with its new products.

Acer Liquid Z500 is one of the new smartphones announced by the handset maker during its IFA 2014 press event. We’ve been invited to the launch event and happily attended it in order to bring you the latest news on the new Acer products announced at the trade fair.

Keep in mind that while Acer Liquid Z500 is an affordable smartphone, it does come with a few features that make it stand out from other mid-range handsets.

According to Acer, the Liquid Z500 is aimed at camera phones fans, hence the addition of an enhanced 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, F2.0 aperture, autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Bu this is not the only strong point of the smartphone, as Acer Liquid Z500 is said to offer astonishing music sound of CD quality for lossless and immersive listening.

Moreover, “music lovers and video fans no longer need external speakers because the Liquid Z500 provides powerful and advanced HD front speakers which deliver astonishing sound along with DTS Studio Sound.”

The Liquid Z500 sports a 5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features 900:1 high contrast.

Acer Liquid Z500 has a smooth and slim form factor, measuring only 8.65 mm in thickness. We’ve been able to take it for a spin and found the smartphone quite appealing considering its low price.

The edges of the smartphone are made of metal-alloy, while the back cover is made of plastic that doesn’t feel cheap at all. Right under the main camera on the back, Acer added a dedicated button that opens up Google Music when it’s pressed.

While browsing the phone’s menu we had the feeling that the Liquid Z500 was quite snappy and responsive. Even the camera’s zoom function is quite fast. The Liquid Z500 ships with the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box, so there’s no need to wait for the update.

Customers who might consider getting this handset should know that Acer Liquid Z500 will be available in Titanium Black, Sandy Silver and Aquamarine Green, beginning September 15.

The smartphone will be launched in EMEA and customers will be able to get it for only €149 ($196) outright. Keep in mind that this is the starting price, which means it might be priced slightly higher in some countries.
