Although its Android-based smartphones are now some of the most popular devices on the market, Samsung is not interested only in the release of new handsets powered by Google's mobile platform, and has announced the release of new bada phones as well.

The company also brought these phones to the IFA 2011 show in Berlin, and Softpedia spent a few minutes playing with these devices, including the new bada flagship smartphone from the company, the Samsung Wave 3.

The device was unveiled to the world only a few days ago with the bada 2.0 operating system on board, as well as with a series of appealing hardware specs and capabilities.

The Samsung Wave 3 is powered by a 1.4GHz application processor and sports a large 4-inch touchscreen display, a Super AMOLED panel that can deliver a WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) resolution.

Inside the new device, Samsung packed 4G of internal memory, as well as a microSD memory card slot, so that users are able to expand the available storage space by up to 32GB.

Samsung also packed the new smartphone with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED Flash, auto focus and support for video recording.

Moreover, the new device sports HSPA 14.4/5.76Mbps connectivity capabilities, along with WiFi and WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0 capabilities, 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Samsung Wave 3 measures 125.9 x 64.2 x 9.9mm and weighs in at 122 grams, while packing a 1,500 mAh battery.

Since it is a bada 2.0-based smartphone, the new device will also have to offer increased support for multitasking, as well as various features that were not available in the OS before.

Among them, we can count voice recognition capabilities, support for photo and file sharing on the go via NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities, or enhanced communication features courtesy of ChatON, Samsung's own service.

If the photos attached to this article won't satisfy your need for admiring Wave 3, you can also have a look at the device in the video embedded below, also shot at IFA 2011.
