Wireless local area networks are already quite widespread, but they definitely have room for improvement.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, or IEEE for short, knows this.

That is why it has established a study group whose sole purpose will be to research how wireless local area network (WLAN) deployments can be improved.

It is called the IEEE 802.11 High Efficiency WLAN (HEW) Study Group and is made of over 300 people.

Everyone involved works with or for service providers, carriers, systems integrators, consultant organizations, equipment and silicon suppliers, and academic institutions spread across 20 countries.

Or at least, 300 is the number of people who've expressed interest in participating.

Before we know it, wireless Internet access from offices, homes, airports, hotels, restaurants, trains and aircraft will be several times better.
