Stereoscopic 3D seems to be the way of the feature, so this technology is making its appearance in more and more gadgets with each day that passes, the latest of which being the a military-qualified handheld display, known as a control display unit, CDU for short.

Designed by IEE, this device should be used for military applications and it measures 4.8-inch in diameter.

The manufacturer states that the optimum 3D effect can be witnessed from 16-inches away, but users also have the option of turning 3D off (I guess that maintaining the proper viewing distance while engaged in combat is a tad difficult).

This will transform the CDU into a regular RGB display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels and 200 cd/m2 of brightness, which pretty much resembles a modern smartphone.

While I definitely am a huge fan of the whole glasses-free 3D thing, I still don't get why would anybody require such a thing in a field of combat.
