Getting closer and closer to the perfect 100/100 score

The latest development milestone of Internet Explorer 9 is extremely close to acing the Acid3 Test. Microsoft has made consistent improvements in terms of achieving the same markup vision, and this has inherently resulted in a boosted Acid3 Test score. Early adopters and developers can now download Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) Platform Preview 3 Build 1.9.7.8.74.6000 and run Acid3. The latest developer preview of the browser will go as high as 83 out of 100.

“Some people use Acid3 as a shorthand for standards. Acid3 tests about 100 fragments of a dozen different technologies. Some are still in ‘under construction.’ Some of the patterns, like SMIL animations, are inconsistent with others, like CSS3 animations, and need to be reconciled. As we continue to implement the standards that developers have told us they value most, the Acid3 score continues to rise, and we’re not done,” Dean Hachamovitch, general manager, Internet Explorer, revealed.

Internet Explorer 9 has jumped no less than 15 points between Platform Preview 2 and Platform Preview 3, Build 1.9.7.8.74.6000, which was released for download on June 23rd, 2010. The software giant now offers better support for modern web standards including HTML5, CSS3, SVG 1.1 and DOM, improvements that result in a higher Acid3 Test score. Of course that Microsoft is aiming to reach for the perfect 100/100 and will get to that level with the final release of Internet Explorer 9.

“With today’s update to the platform preview, we have also updated the IE Testing Center, adding another 118 test cases which we are contributing to the appropriate web standards working groups at the W3C. In addition, we have written 1309 JavaScript test cases and are making those all available to the web development community,” Hachamovitch added.

Same markup refers to all browsers sharing the same implementation of web standards in a consistent manner, allowing developers to write their code once, and have it work seamlessly across not only IE9, but also Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc.
