Manufacturers these days are all striving to create the thinnest and lightest notebooks on the market, but the majority of offerings remain quite bulky.

For those who don't want to overly strain themselves by carrying a heavy laptop inside a chunky accessory bag, stop and take a look at what this Indiegogo project has to offer.

The ICE xPC is a so-called “modular” computer which is the size of an average smartphone and reportedly comes equipped with a “processing power of a portable or desktop computer.”

The ICE xPC weighs a meager 100 g / 0.22 lbs, but it can still achieve pretty amazing things. The device can be turned into the core of a tablet (pad), notebook, desktop or gaming device, so we could call it a 4-in-1 of sorts.

The gizmo has been designed to provide performance so it will come sporting a high-performance motherboard and the most recent x86 CPU/chipset (Intel Bay Trail 4-cores Atom processor) combined with 4GB of RAM and between 64GB to 128GB SSD.

Other functionalities offered are 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity, an accelerometer and a camera.

The ICE xPC says they’ve “separated the traditional, integrated architecture of the PC intro key components: the processor, data storage, display, keyboard and peripherals. The design concept facilities dynamic plug-and-play of ICE processors and all peripherals through matched connectors.”

“The xPC drives everything, and you can easily assemble, or upgrade. No need for tools or technical knowledge. And no need to replace your entire PC.”

Prices for the ICE xPC start at $259 / €190 and for this you’ll be getting an xPC unit (Intel Bay Trail 4-cores Atom processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB SSD, “install your own” Windows OS) plus one ICE xAdapter.

For other accessories like the xPad (Mobile display on the road) or the xKeyboard (xPad Cover Keyboard/stand) customers will have to pay extra, of course.

Those interested should know that estimated shipping dates for the device vary between July and September 2014, depending on the configuration.
