The podcast frenzy has reached the enterprise segment. After Apple included podcast support into the last iTunes version, 4.9, more and more companies have started to acknowledge the full potential of this communication channel.

After Pepsi and General Motors, IBM has also decided that podcasts represent essential technology. IBM has introduced podcasts in the company's internal network, but now Big Blue is planning to use them to communicate their vision on technology. "These are insights that our consultants get from conversations with customers into emerging issues," spokesman John Bukovinsky said of the conversations IBM plans to feature in coming months. "They are not IBM commercials."

IBM's decision is not surprising, since not long ago, the company decided to adopt a corporate blogging policy. Therefore podcasts are coming as a natural continuation to that.

Users will be able to find the podcasts on IBM's site in the investor section, but IBM is planning to launch a series of comments called "IBM and the Future Of..." which will focus on current issues.

One of the first podcasts from this series will be called "IBM and the Future Of Driving", in which the company's experts will comment the way in which technology influences the cars' design, manufacturing process and maintenance.

Podcasts have the advantage of being available for free, and compatible with any MP3 Player. For the podcasts present on IBM's site, the company has decided to go with the MP3 format.
