If she hadn’t become an actress

Jessica Alba has always fought to take down the misconception that she’s nothing but a pretty face. In the latest issue of Self magazine, the actress opens up about her personal life, being a mother and wife – a thing she rarely does –, as well as about how she would have liked to be a politician if she hadn’t been bitten by the acting bug.

The star has recently taken somewhat of a break from the spotlight to dedicate more of her time to her new family, husband Cash Warren and daughter Honor. At the same time, she’s also started to be more involved in awareness campaigns and charities, which has helped her realize she would have loved to go into politics if it weren’t for her acting job. Lobbying for a cause and working for the best interest of a community must be an excellent job, the star says with a tinge of regret.

“I used to think being a marine biologist would be the best thing ever, but now that I’ve grown up and seen things in the world, I think politics. Advocating and lobbying for certain issues would be a pretty interesting way to live your life… When I was in Washington, D.C., I got to meet Nancy Pelosi. She was so warm. I just grinned from ear to ear with my mouth open and my eyes bulging out of my head! Afterward, I called Cash and totally geeked out. I was beside myself. Tickled pink! The fact that a woman is speaker of the house? Oh, my God!” Jessica tells Self.

Of course, that’s not to say that she’s not happy with the way things are in her life right now. On the contrary, Alba stresses, since she became a mother, she discovered an entirely new side of life. Motherhood has also made her want to be a better person by getting more involved in aspects that would, a few years back, leave her indifferent, while also making her think about the future more intently. For instance, she says, she wants to have more children and she is determined to have them raised away from Hollywood.

“Honor is the best cure for stress. When I spend time with her, I get instant perspective. I can be hard on myself if I don’t do everything perfectly. But now that I have her, there’s no time for that. I want to teach her that you can learn from your mistakes, and if you keep moving and stay positive and loving, everything will work out. […] I’d love to be raising my kids on a farm in the South of France. My mother-in-law has lived there for more than 20 years, and she has a beautiful setup. I want to be able to allow Honor and my other kids, who I hope to be blessed with in the future, to maintain their innocence for as long as possible. There is so much time to be an adult,” the actress explains.
