Blu-ray, as a means of storing, transferring and enjoying Full-HD media content, has been growing in popularity over the past few months. This growth is driven not only by the advancements in HD media, but also by the appearance of new types of content, such as 3D. In order to keep up with marketing demands, and to provide consumers with their own means of quickly storing their own content on Blu-ray disks, I-O Data has announced that it will soon ship a new internal Blu-ray burner.

I-O data has been quite active over the past couple of months. It has not only launched a series of high-capacity external hard disk drives, but has also brought forth a Super Multi Blu-ray burner and even a 20-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) desktop monitor. This latest Blu-ray burner will complement the company's existing offer and can burn Blu-ray disks of both 25GB and 50GB capacities at up to 12x.

The I-O Data BRD-SH12B is an internal optical storage unit that operates on the SATA interface. It has 4MB of buffer memory and can write a multitude of different disk formats at different speeds. BD-R disks can be scribed at up to 12x, while BD-RE can be written at up to 2x. The device can also write DVD disks, with 16x achievable when writing DVD-R/+R, 12x when scribing DVD-RAM, 8x for DVD-R/+R DL, 8x for DVD+R and 6x for DVD-RW. As far as CDs are concerned, the speed of 48x is achievable when writing on CD-R disks, with 24x being the limit for CD-RW.

The new I-O Data internal Blu-ray burner will become available, in Japan, later this month, and will carry a price tag of 28,500 Yen, which is the equivalent of $315. The drive will be accompanied by a one-year warranty.
