I-O Data, like all companies on the consumer IT market, seems to go about its official releases in a fairly methodical, periodic fashion, as the company has stepped up once more on the storage segment.

There are many things nowadays that can make a hard disk drive stand out, depending on who it is meant for, among other factors.

The fact that it has been a while since they stopped being purely internal components definitely has something to do with this fact.

That said, I-O Data is the one acting now, entering the spotlight and releasing a new HDD for those who travel and want to carry a lot of data on them.

One model has been spotted, part of the HDPV-UT series, the line that was actually announced way back in May and released in June.

The newcomer has a storage capacity of 1 TB inside a frame measuring 85 (W) x 130 (D) x 14 (H) mm. The weight is of 180 grams.

The storage space is not the only asset, as transfer speeds are also bound to be stupendous, thanks to the USB 3.0 interface.

For those who want their memory refreshed, USB 3.0, SuperSpeed, is the latest iteration of the Universal Serial Bus specification.

Its maximum theoretical transfer speed is of around 5 Gbps, about ten times as high as that of USB 2.0.

Of course, this doesn't mean the latter is not supported. Backwards compatibility is present, though the read/write speeds will be limited to 480 Mbps.

Additionally, I-O Data gave the drive a rubber bottom and a scratch-resistant top coating, plus a built-in cable and a one-year warranty.

It will sell for roughly $205 (151-152 Euro), in Snow White, Piano Black and Platinum Gold colors, at some point during the later parts of October.
