Earlier this year, actress Ginnifer Goodwin was at the center of a media storm after she revealed that she’d been on Weight Watchers ever since she was 9. People actually assumed she had an eating disorder, which was all shades of stupid, she tells the latest issue of Marie Claire magazine.

The star, known for her determination to prove that real women too have a place in Hollywood (she’s curvy by the industry standards but thin compared to real-life women), insists she’s genetically predisposed to be large.

The statement makes sense, especially since, in January 2011, she said the only reason she went on Weight Watchers was because she’d been an overweight kid and her parents wanted to teach her to eat healthy for weight control.

Still, if she weren’t careful about what she ate, she’d be much heavier than she is now, Ginnifer says.

“I am genetically predisposed to be a bigger girl than I am. If I didn’t live in Hollywood, I would be,” the actress says.

“I have very real hips and a real Southern woman’s [backside],” she adds with pride. Indeed, compared to other female stars, Ginnifer does stand out for her curvy figure.

As for the story that she had an eating disorder, which came out shortly after she revealed she’d been on Weight Watchers since 9, that was just dumb.

“I could not believe the twisting of that story. I’ve never had body issues, and I’ve never had an eating disorder. Most of the people I know are on the program for health reasons. And yes, some of them are slim women who want to stay slim,” she adds.

Ginnifer said the same when the allegations first made it in the press: the only reason she did not have an eating disorder and had such excellent eating habits was because of Weight Watchers.
