In an usually low-earning weekend that seemed to mimic the recent cold-front affecting the United States, “I, Frankenstein” saw a very disappointing debut weekend, managing barely $ 8.3 million (€6 million) and thus sealing its fate at the box office.

The movie starring Aaron Eckhart is a sci-fi retelling of the classic Mary Shelley Frankenstein tale set in modern times. Variety thinks that the reason behind the flop is the title which falsely alludes the movie has a lot in common with the original tale, when, in reality, there is little to make a connection between the two.

It was believed the movie would fare well, considering the success of previous retellings of this kinds such as “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” and “Jack the Giant Slayer.”

Meanwhile, the top positions of the box office were occupied by the cop comedy “Ride Along” which made an additional $21.2 million (€15,4 million) and the military drama “Lone Survivor” which managed $12.6 million (€9.2 million).
