Cooperative experience

Bethesda Softworks, the videogame-oriented arm of ZeniMax Media, and inXile Entertainment, an independent developer, have announced that the play to work together to launch Hunted: The Demon's Forge, a new cooperatively enabled fantasy action title set to arrive on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC through Games for Windows.

The biggest name behind inXile Entertainment is Brian Fargo, having founded it back in 2002. He has quite a bit of experience in the gaming industry, working on titles like The Bard's Tale, Baldur's Gate and Fallout.

Mr. Fargo said that “We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda Softworks on this upcoming release that takes us back to our roots. Bethesda’s track record speaks for itself and the game we are developing for them is no exception,” while Vlatko Andonov, the president of Bethesda Softworks, stated, “We believe gamers will be really excited about what these guys have in store for them.”

Very little is known about Hunted: The Demon's Forge at the moment. Apparently, the experience will require at least two players to work together as they navigate complex dungeons and take out wave after wave of enemies.

The element of cover will be heavily emphasized, which suggests that ranged weaponry and maybe magic will be central to the experience. The official Bethesda website offers a description that sounds like classic fantasy, with an ancient land being corrupted and entering a Dark Age with two mercenaries, named as E’lara and Caddoc, coming to the rescue of disappearing peasants.

Bethesda usually takes great care in selecting the games it publishes, as shown by the success of titles like Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, so the new inXile title will probably also sell well on launch. It does not have a release date yet.
