Wildlife researchers have reasons to believe that a humongous great white shark named Lydia is about to become a mother.

Thus, information obtained with the help of a tracking device that the shark was fitted with last year indicates that Lydia is now heading towards European waters.

More precisely, it was just a few days ago when the great white shark was documented to be swimming at a distance of about 800 miles (1,255 km) off the coast of Cornwall and Ireland in the Atlantic Ocean.

Specialists argue that, if Lydia is in fact traveling towards European waters, it is probably doing so in order to find a nursery, Daily Mail reports.

“I would guess that Lydia is pregnant and that she has been out in the open ocean gestating her babies and that this spring she will lead us to where those baby white sharks are born – the nursery,” wildlife researcher Chris Fischer said.

It is believed that the great white shark will eventually choose to deliver its pups in the waters off Turkey's coast. However, there is still time for it to change its mind and head to the United States instead of Europe.

Experts say that, to their knowledge, Lydia might give birth to somewhere between 2 and 12 pups.
