Report says Hugh Hefner is devastated, heartbroken that Crystal Harris no longer wants to marry him

Crystal Harris and Hugh Hefner were supposed to get married this Saturday, but she called everything off in the final hour. Though she claims the split was “mutual,” Hugh is so heartbroken he may actually die because of this, reports suggest.

“After much deep reflection and thought I have decided to end my engagement with Hef. I have the utmost respect for Hef and wish him the best going forward. I hope the media will give each of us the privacy we deserve during this time,” Crystal says in a statement on her official webpage.

She’s also been saying that she believed everything was moving too fast and in a direction neither truly wanted, so she and Hefner sat down, talked about it and decided not to get married after all.

In the meantime, somewhere in his Playboy Mansion, the Hef is dying of a broken heart, sources close to him say for PopEater.

The mogul really thought this was happening and wanted to get married to Crystal more than anything. Hearing that she may have someone else in her life already and that she was breaking up with him came as a huge shock.

In fact, Hefner is so devastated by everything that friends actually fear for him.

“He will die of a broken heart. He loves Crystal and wanted so much to finally be happily married to who he thought was the love of his life,” the pal dishes for the e-zine.

Of course, there’s also the possibility that the entire engagement / planning a wedding things was just an elaborate PR stunt to launch Crystal into music, a theory that Hefner himself seems to acknowledge as accurate on his Twitter.

After the breakup announcement, blogger Linz Loves tweeted, “Omg @CrystalHarris left @hughhefner the day her single came out on iTunes. Coincidence? I think not,” and Hefner retweeted it.

Indeed, Crystal has a single out now: it’s called “Club Queen” and its release coincided to a certain extent with the breakup announcement.

Check it out below to see if it was worth it (assuming the wedding was a PR stunt from the start).
